Manager of Oral History and Youth Advocacy at SLB Radio Productions (SLB
Chanessa Schuler is Manager of Oral History and Youth Advocacy at SLB Radio Productions (SLB). With SLB since 2011, she holds a degree in mass media from Carlow University and is passionate about amplifying authentic voices of youth and adults through audio. Her projects include Crossing Fences, an oral history program during which 200-plus African American boys youth interviewed African American men in their own community about their lives, aspirations, and principles. This body of work has led nearly 200 five-minute narrationless profiles of African American men sharing their story, a multimedia website called crossingfences.org and a weekly podcast known as Crossing Fences. Chanessa is now leading a similar project in which girls interview women. Chanessa also serves as was a mentor and facilitator to high school students as part of the Youth Media Advocacy Project (YMAP), a collaboration between SLB and the Carlow University that seeks to equip students with skills needed to identify and advocate for positive change in their community.
